about

\\\Before introducing this EP I have a few very important people to thank.

Firstly I would like to thank all my friends who heard both track prior to the release. Thank you so much for your time and comments. Musically I would like to start thanking Sasko Temelkoski, who has been a constant collaborator in the last few years. Many composers talk about how you should write for the musician, not the instrument. When I write thinking of him, not only the clarinet. Thank you Vitor Cabral for providing your amazing percussion textures and ideas that brought so much richness to the music. Vitor has been on my ‘whish list’ of musicians for a long time and without his collaboration I would have not been so confident in release this EP. Thank you Bill Davison for another collaboration. Just as I mentioned before this is another case where I write thinking about the musician, not only the instrument. I feel we have a certain shared musical DNA due to the accurateness of those performances, always so on the spot with what I had in mind. Thank you Dimas Faustov for the impeccable woodwinds. I am always impressed with the speed an accuracy you understand what I am going for. And I am still unsure if you are or not a very groovy robot. Thank you Javier Cereceda for this first collaboration. I am happy to have meet such a talented and enthusiastic musician. I am anxiously waiting for you to get your hands on that contrabassoon. Thank you Nai Han Cheng for flexibility in this first collaboration. After this one we went for some unorthodox ideas for another project and I you were so open to trying new things. Thank you Max Houtris with who I have worked a couple of times before this EP. An extremely talented improviser and a true chameleon. This trombonist can handle anything from classical to gipsy jazz. Thank you Heline for your beautiful and impeccable performance. I know you are in Finland but I could swear you where swinging in Rio de Janeiro.

The EP would not have been concluded without mastering which – to me – is still an obscure art form and which I rely on masters to perform. That is why I got Christian Vaisz on it. Thank you so much for jumping on board and thank you KF Studios for the room – and the Coffee!
What would be of an EP without artwork? Thank you, Leo Lage, for lending your creativity and, as I mentioned before, every passing day I am more in love with the artwork.
And speaking of art I had the support, opinions and patience of a gifted artist called Karina Yamashiro who was part of the whole process. Thank you, Karina.

Part of this EP was concluded while quarantining with the family. I would like to thank Lucas, Renata, Maria and Guilherme for the patience you had with uncle Renan.

About the EP///

///O FIO DA MEADA is the first solo release by Brazilian composer Renan Franzen. The EP features two instrumental pieces full of woodwinds, brass, percussions, and electronic colors, giving a new spin in Brazil’s Choro genre and it’s 'Orquestra Típica' ensemble.
The EP is named after a Brazilian slang originated during the industrial revolution by weaving machine workers.
A similar usage of it would be to suggest say you have lost your ‘train of thought’.
Taking social distancing to and extreme, the EP was recorded all around the world. Frequent collaborators from North Macedonia, Spain, Finland, China, Ukraine, and other states in Brazil, received their score parts and recorded them in their private studios. The parts were put together, mixed, and produced by Renan in his studio
in Brazil.
